Information Technology and Cyber Security professor, Kermit Burley is clearly passionate about teaching – and the program he coordinates at PSU-LV. With more than 40 years of industry experience, he shares that enthusiasm – and significant real-world knowhow in the classroom – on a campus he’ll tell you is small enough to get to really know his students, but big enough to open global doors. Even after graduation, Burley continues the role of mentor with former students as many come back to catch up with the professor and share what they’ve achieved.

Background

Beyond the various operations, training and development, human resources, and marketing roles he’s held at corporations, Burley launched two successful businesses of his own. He takes that perspective to the classroom, sharing stories and lessons from the field – helping his students understand how to apply it as they enter their careers. Like his time in “corporate” when his most gratifying accolades came from team members and customers who felt he’d made a difference in their lives, Burley takes the greatest satisfaction in knowing he’s had a positive impact on each of his students.

The professor is a constant at student events – serving as an advisor, supporter and often, their biggest fan. He also coaches several students and is a member of the retention and commencement committees.

When not at PSU-LV, Burley loves to run in the early morning hours and competes in local races. He and his wife are also huge music fans and can often be seen at concert venues around the region.
