Penn State Lehigh Valley basketball players and coach honored by PSUAC

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. — Seven players from the Penn State Lehigh Valley men’s and women's basketball programs and one coach have been recognized by the Penn State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) for their outstanding performances throughout the 2016-17 season. 

Women's basketball PSUAC honors

Four players from the Penn State Lehigh Valley women's basketball programs and one coach have been recognized by the Penn State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) for their outstanding performances throughout the 2016-17 season.

Women's Basketball Honors — 19-3 Overall Record

Player of the Year & First Team — Andrea Watkins (junior from Emmaus, Pennsylvania, and graduate of Emmaus High School). This is Watkins’ second straight season being named PSUAC Player of the Year. Watkins recorded 363 points on the season. She finished the season ranked fourth in the conference in scoring averaging 16.5 points per game.

First Team Ashley Gordon (senior from Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, and graduate of Freedom High School). Gordon recorded 311 points on the season. She averaged 14.1 points per game and 8.2 rebounds per game.

Second Team — Hannah Bankes (junior from Lyon Station, Pennsylvania, and graduate of Kutztown High School). Bankes recorded 295 points on the season and averaged 14 points per game.

Second Team — Ebony Sanders (First year from Bakersfield, California, and graduate of Independence High School). Saunders averaged a double-double on the season with 12.1 points per game and 10.3 rebounds per game. She finished the season ranked third in rebounds per game, third in field goal percentage at 50.9 percent and first in blocks per game in the PSUAC.

Coach of the Year — Lorie Khalil (2003 graduate of Moravian College. This is her third season at PSU-LV and her twelfth season coaching overall).

2017 PSUAC Coach of the Year

Lorie Khalil, Penn State Lehigh Valley women's basketball coach, was named 2017 PSUAC Coach of the Year. Khalil reflects on the season.

Men's Basketball Honors — 15-10 Overall Record
Honorable Mention — Jordan Young (senior from Bethlehem and graduate of Freedom High School). Young recorded 365 points on the season.

Honorable Mention — Jonathan Buie (Junior from Harnett County, North Carolina, and graduate of Western Harnett County High School). Buie recorded 249 points on the season.

Honorable Mention — Tarvis Gilbert (junior from Apex, North Carolina, and graduate of Apex High School). Gilbert recorded 279 points on the season.
