Lehigh Valley's Jacqueline McLaughlin wins environmental education award

Jacqueline McLaughlin, associate professor of biology at Penn State Lehigh Valley, was recently recognized by the North American Association for Environmental Education. McLaughlin was honored with the Higher Education Educator of the Year Award, given to educators for promoting environmental education and utilizing the environment as a context for learning in their teaching.

International Food and Entrepreneur Series: Machu Picchu Peruvian

Penn State Lehigh Valley faculty, staff and students visited Machu Picchu on Sept. 27 as part of the International Food and Entrepreneur Series. The next one is on Oct. 24 at Maza Middle Eastern Cuisine.

Dimitrios Tsokanos took the bus to Philadelphia at the end of September so he could tour Edgar Allan Poe’s home, an historic site part of the National Park Service, and walk the streets where Poe walked.

CHANCE Cuba Field Program

Participants in the CHANCE Cuba field program were required to carry out pre-trip, online assignments before venturing into the field to learn from local government experts, university faculty and National Park biologists about ongoing Cuban conservation efforts and environmental policies as they explored the biodiversity of the rainforests of Sierra del Rosario; wetlands, mangroves, forests and coral reefs of Guanahacabibes Peninsula; and farmlands of Viñales. Here the group is in Guanahacabibes National Park.

Penn State’s NSF I-Corps program seeks applications by Sept. 15 and Oct. 15

The National Science Foundation has joined in supporting Penn State’s goal of taking more of its discoveries to market by awarding Penn State a five-year, $500,000 Innovation Corps (I-Corps) grant to establish the Invent Penn State I-Corps Site in collaboration with Ben Franklin Technology Partner’s TechCelerator, Happy Valley LaunchBox, and Invent Penn State’s Innovation Hubs.
