CENTER VALLEY, Pa. — Penn State Lehigh Valley Director of Academic Affairs Aníbal Torres recently was invited to teach in McGill University’s Couple and Family Therapy graduate program. McGill’s highly regarded program is grounded in a problem-focused, integrative family therapy perspective with an emphasis on evidence-based practice.

“It is always exciting to join leading experts from around the world to teach the next generation of couple and family therapists,” said Torres. “McGill is doing extraordinary work, and it is an honor to be invited to speak.”

While on the Montreal campus, Torres led two classes within the Assessment and Practicum areas. His focus was to help students strengthen their clinical acumen, reflective practice, and integration of systemic theory into therapeutic work.

McGill’s Couple and Family Therapy program aims to train highly competent graduates by integrating contemporary theory, research competence, and varied approaches to therapy for today’s relationships.

“My career has been focused on advancing clinical training grounded in systemic and relational principles,” Torres added. “This aligns perfectly with the goals of the McGill program.”

Torres joined Penn State Lehigh Valley as the campus’s chief academic officer in April 2021 after serving as dean of the School of Liberal Arts, Sciences, and Society at SUNY Morrisville. Since taking on his role at Penn State, Torres has been clear about his goal to bring the power of the University’s land-grant mission to the local community and beyond.

“I am proud to represent Penn State Lehigh Valley,” said Torres. “We are an extraordinary campus of experts, researchers, students, and educators. I am glad to have shared our story with our colleagues and friends at McGill.”
