Fall 2024 Arts Project
Advanced Metals and Jewelry Making (In person classroom 301)
This class is designed for students who are familiar with the basics of metalsmithing and jewelry making, such as fabricating, casting, finishing and simple stone setting. Students will develop individual ideas and explore new concepts. Technical demonstrations will be offered at the students’ request. Students will be required to purchase some materials.

Beginning Metals and Jewelry Making (In person classroom 301)
Explore the technical challenges and creative discovery of designing and creating your own jewelry. In this class, designed just for beginners, students will learn to fabricate (saw, sand, solder), cast texture, polish and set stones in unique and personal designs. No prior metalsmithing or art knowledge is necessary. Students will be required to purchase materials such as metal, findings, solder and stones.

Introduction to Ceramics (In person classroom 301)
In this class we will use basic clay techniques to create functional and decorative ceramic pieces. Your instructor, Julianna Lange, will guide you in the creation candle holders, pinch pot vases, sgraffito plates, pendants, ornaments, and a coil project of your choice. All experience levels welcome.

3D printing for beginners (In person classroom 303)
Students will learn the basics of 3D printing: How to use a 3D CAD program and how to create your own printed 3D object. Students will be working on their own laptop during both classes. Students may be required to supply their own thumb drive but that will be discussed at the for class.

“Cameraless” Photography and the Natural World (In person classroom 303)
This course invites students to explore cameraless photographic processes. Projects will be deeply experimental, colorful, and steeped in a rich appreciation of sustainable, botanical, and natural materials. No prior photography or artmaking experience is necessary. Students will be required to source some natural materials (cuttings, leaves, flowers, fruits, and/or vegetables). Projects include - Camera Obscura / Hand-held Camera Obscura, Digital Negatives, Anthotypes, Chlorophyll Prints, Cyanotypes
Students will be required to purchase a few supplies

About the instructors:
Ann Lalik: As Gallery Director and Arts Coordinator at Penn State Lehigh Valley, Lalik instituted the art gallery and art studio facilities on PSULV’s campus and continues to work with the faculty and administration to infuse the arts into the campus life where she also teaches jewelry and metalsmithing. Lalik holds a BFA and MFA concentration in metalworking and her teaching career spans more than three decades.
Julianna Lange is a ceramic artist that has trained, worked, and taught ceramics in the United States, Italy, and China. Having a background in archaeology, she is passionate in the ceramic process and its development throughout history. She currently enjoys teaching Ceramics at Penn State and is the Director of Education at the Moravian Pottery and Tile Works, a historic working history museum.
Diane Lemberg holds a BFA is in Computer Graphics and MFA in Electronic Visualization and is a designer at heart. She is a maker of many things, but primarily jewelry (and baked goods). She loves to share with others the 3D Printing process and how it encourages a different way of thinking about the design process.
Susan Morelock is an artist and educator whose engagement with photography, video, and writing begins with what the world presents, then uses beauty and theory to coax the mundane toward metaphor. She holds her MFA from Columbia University. Her work has been widely exhibited in venues across the United States as well internationally, including locations in Italy, Japan, England, and China.
