Faculty Award Nomination Form

The Penn State Lehigh Valley Awards Selection Committee (ASC) is calling for nominations for the faculty awards listed below. If you are interested in nominating someone that meets the eligibility criteria for one of the awards, please complete this nomination form below. All form submissions will be sent via email to Kathryn Pitts. Nominations will then be forwarded to ASC for review.

All nominations are due by Friday, April 5, 2024.


Academic Affairs Award for Innovative Teaching

The Academic Affairs Award for Innovative Teaching recognizes a campus group or individual faculty or staff member who enhanced the learning experiences of students through exceptional implementation of innovative instructional methods (such as new approaches to developmental education, innovative practices in embedded study abroad, etc.).

Nominee Qualifications

  • Has/have been employed at PSU-LV for at least two consecutive years (eligible after the second full year of employment).
  • Has/have not received this award over the past three years.

Award

  • The recipient(s) will receive a certificate suitable for framing.

Nomination

  • The PSU-LV Award Selection Committee (ASC) shall call for nominations by Friday, April 5, 2024.
  • Any employee or student of PSU-LV campus may nominate a faculty member/group meeting the above eligibility criteria by using the nomination form.
  • The nomination form (below) shall be available from February through March on PSU-LV website. Students and employees will be notified of the award nomination process via email.
  • While faculty members may draw students’ attention to the awards, they are not to distribute nomination forms to students.
  • Nominations shall be submitted to the Office of the Chancellor by Friday, April 5, 2024.

Selection

  • The Chancellor shall determine the eligibility of the nominees and forward all eligible nominations, together with the nomination form, to the Awards Selection Committee (ASC) by Friday, April 5, 2024.
  • The ASC shall contact candidates to obtain their consent and request the following materials:
  • A personal statement explaining the course(s) or project(s) that demonstrate innovation.
  • A current CV.
  • Nominated faculty must provide the requested materials and permissions to the ASC within 14 days after being notified by the ASC committee of the nomination.
  • The ASC will select two finalists for the award and forward these names to the Director of Academic Affairs who will decide on the winner.

Responsibility of Recipient

Recipients of this award shall make themselves available as mentors to other faculty.


Outstanding Contribution in Outreach, and/or Service

The purpose of the Penn State Lehigh Valley (PSU-LV) campus is to recognize and encourage excellence in outreach, service, and advising by faculty at the Lehigh Valley Campus.

Eligibility

  • Has been employed at PSU-LV for at least two consecutive years (eligible after the second full year of employment).
  • Has not received this award over the past three years.

Award

  • The recipient will receive a certificate suitable for framing and additional travel funding in the amount of five hundred dollars ($500.00) for the upcoming academic year.
  • The recipient's name shall be added to the roster on a plaque of recipients displayed at the campus.

  • The PSU-LV Award Selection Committee (ASC) shall call for nominations by Friday, April 5, 2024.
  • Any employee or student of PSU-LV campus may nominate a faculty member meeting the above eligibility criteria by using the nomination form.
  • The nomination form (below) shall be available from February through March on PSU-LV website. Students and employees will be notified of the award nomination process via email.

  • A current CV.
  • Sample publications or other documentation of outreach, service, and advising.
  • Evidence of the effectiveness of the candidate’s outreach/service/advising, such as letters supporting the quality of outreach, service, or advising of the nominee from beneficiaries or outside contributors to the project or related projects.
  • Nominated faculty must provide requested materials and permissions to the ASC within 14 days after being notified by the ASC committee of the nomination.

Responsibility of Recipient

Recipients of this award shall make themselves available as mentors to other faculty.


Outstanding Research and/or Creative Accomplishment (all faculty)

  • The purpose of the Penn State Lehigh Valley (PSU-LV) campus is to recognize and encourage excellence in academic research, creative activity, scholarship, and mastery of subject matter by PSU-LV faculty. Two awards will be available, one for Established/Senior scholar, and one for Emerging/Early-Career scholar. These awards are open to all faculty members, including tenure line and teaching line.

Eligibility

  • Has been employed at PSU-LV for at least two consecutive years (eligible after the second full year of employment).
  • Has not received this award over the past three years.

Awards

  • The recipients will receive a certificate suitable for framing and additional travel funding in the amount of five hundred dollars ($500.00) for the upcoming academic year.
  • A book shall be placed in the library on his or her behalf.
  • The recipients' names shall be added to the roster on a plaque of recipients displayed at the campus.

  • Evidence of candidate’s scholarly reach (citations, letters of speaking invitations, articles, etc.) Nominated faculty must provide requested materials and permissions to the ASC within 14 days after being notified by the ASC committee of the nomination.
  • The committee reserves the right to present two people with the award, if warranted.

Teaching Excellence Award (all faculty)

The purpose of the Penn State Lehigh Valley (PSU-LV) campus Teaching Excellence Award is to recognize and encourage teaching excellence at Lehigh Valley campus.

Eligibility

The Awards Selection Committee encourages nominations for any and all teaching faculty at PSU-LV. The chancellor and committee will then determine the eligibility of the candidate according to the following rules (which are presented for the record, not to discourage any nomination):

FULL-TIME FACULTY:

  • Faculty member on tenure track or full time status and must have been employed at PSU-LV for at least two consecutive years (eligible after the second full year of employment).
  • Has not received this award over the past three years.

PART-TIME FACULTY:

  • The person must be a part-time faculty member, have been employed at PSU-LV for at least two consecutive years (eligible after the second full year of employment).
  • The recipient of this award will be ineligible during the three succeeding years.

Award

  • The recipient will receive a certificate suitable for framing and additional travel funding in the amount of five hundred dollars ($500.00) for the full-time faculty winner and two-hundred fifty dollars ($250.00) for the part-time faculty winner for the upcoming academic year.
  • A book shall be placed in the library on his or her behalf.
  • The recipient's name shall be added to the roster on a plaque of recipients displayed at the campus.

  • The PSU-LV Award Selection Committee (ASC) shall call for nominations by Friday, April 5, 2024.
  • Any employee or student of PSU-LV campus may nominate a faculty member meeting the above eligibility criteria by using the nomination form.

  • SRTEs for the last two years.
  • A current CV, including all classes taught at PSU-LV.
  • A one-page statement on teaching responding to this prompt: “Please provide a one-page statement on your teaching. (The following questions are meant to provide a starting point, rather than a straitjacket.) Why do you teach? What is your teaching philosophy? What are some core instructional practices that characterize your teaching? What was one of your most successful moments as a teacher?”
  • Nominated faculty must provide the requested materials and permissions to the ASC within 14 days after being notified by the ASC committee of the nomination.
  • The committee reserves the right to visit a class in person or on online or to request video from the candidate of a class in session.
