The last week of February 2024 still offers a few events across campuses for Black History Month, including at Penn State Brandywine, Harrisburg, Dickinson Law, Lehigh Valley, Shenango, and York. In addition, several exhibits are still available to visitors at Penn State University Park, Brandywine and Harrisburg.
PSU-LV student Klaudia Salvino’s entry was chosen as the winning design for the “Design Your Own STEM-tastic Day” logo contest and will be used widely for program branding.
Andjela Kaur, assistant teaching professor, rehabilitation and human services (RHS) at PSU-LV, served as the co-keynote speaker at a conference focused on disability studies at University of Novi Sad, Serbia. Students in two of Kaur’s PSU-LV classes are also collaborating with students at the same university on projects addressing accessibility.
A Penn State Lehigh Valley professor and her students are collaborating with a university in Serbia to bring a better understanding of disability studies to a broader audience.
Penn State Lehigh Valley student Muhammad Shivji spent four weeks job shadowing health care professionals in two different clinics in Tanzania. He did some sightseeing, as well, including a visit to Ngorongoro Conservation Area in Arusha, Tanzania.
Like many Penn State Lehigh Valley students, Muhammad Shivji seized academic opportunities over winter break; but unlike the typical internship or career shadow, Shivji's pursuit required a passport. The third year biobehavioral health (BBH) student at Penn State Lehigh Valley used his semester gap to gain first-hand experience in the medical field in Tanzania, Africa.
