CENTER VALLEY, Pa. — Penn State Lehigh Valley will hold the 3rd Annual Open Affordable Showcase on May 9. This event is open to any faculty or staff member within the Penn State network interested in making students’ Penn State experience more affordable; exploring best practices around open educational resources (OER); discovering new ways to use materials in classes, assignments or activities; or how open pedagogy can help advance teaching and learning goals. The conference will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., primarily in room 224.

This year’s free daylong event will feature presenters from across Penn State’s Commonwealth Campuses who have incorporated OER and open education practices into their own classroom instruction in various ways. The program will include the following sessions:

  • Penn State Lehigh Valley Lightning Talks, featuring Alison Bonner, Mark Capofari, Lisa Guise and Nicole Moschberger
  • Themed discussions over lunch, with such topics as “Documenting and Sharing OER Usage Within Disciplines,” led by Larry Musolino, 2022 Penn State Lehigh Valley Open Champion Award winner; “How Long Does It Really Take to Adopt and Adapt OER?” led by Michelle Kaschak, 2023 Penn State Lehigh Valley Open Champion Award winner; and “Open Education 101: The Basics and Benefits,” led by Elizabeth Nelson, librarian and campus OER lead, Penn State Lehigh Valley
  • “Transforming and Innovating with Open Education (TIOE) Initiative Snapshot” featuring Andjela Kaur, Penn State Lehigh Valley; introduction by Anibal Torres Bernal, Penn State Lehigh Valley chief academic officer
