Registration open for 10th annual Diverse Literacies Conference

Literacy scholar Yetta Goodman to serve as keynote speaker

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. — Registration is now open for the 2016 Diverse Literacies Conference presented by Penn State Lehigh Valley and the Lehigh Valley Writing Project. The conference will focus on "Language as a Resource for Revaluing Diverse Learners" and takes place from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, at Bear Creek Mountain Resort and Conference Center in Macungie.

Yetta Goodman, a noted scholar in the literacy field, will be the keynote speaker for the event. Her research focuses on early literacy, miscue analysis, and the reading and writing processes. Goodman will also offer a pre-conference dinner interactive session on “Analyzing Miscues to Better Understand Readers” from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 23, at the Melt restaurant at The Promenade Shops in Center Valley.

The conference will feature demonstration workshops, research presentations, and poster discussions presented by teacher educators, local teachers of various grade levels and disciplines, and pre-service teachers. A continental breakfast and complete lunch is also included.

The early registration fee, which will be accepted until Sept. 16, is $59. Late and on-site registration is $69. Full-time students may attend for $30. On-site registration is limited. The pre-conference workshop is $35 and includes dinner.
