Since Joselyne Mera Vargas moved to the United States from Ecuador when she was 9 years old, she has developed valuable leadership and communication skills, discovered a passion for data science, and completed a summer internship at Harvard University. To celebrate all that Vargas has achieved during her time at Penn State, she has been selected as the College of Information Science and Technology’s student marshal for the fall commencement ceremony on Dec. 21.
Students, faculty and staff joined Fred J. Saffold III, founder of the True Black History Museum, to celebrate Black History Month on Feb. 6 at Penn State Lehigh Valley. The True Black History Museum was on display most of the day in Centre Hall to allow all students to see the rare and authentic artifacts.

Liz K. Kleintop, economics and business professor at Moravian College, visited Penn State Lehigh Valley on Oct. 12 to speak to students, faculty and staff during National Coming Out Week. Her 60-minute presentation offered those in the campus community insight, facts and personal experience as someone belonging to the LGBT community.
