Nearly a dozen Penn State Lehigh Valley students got up early on March 16 to drive an hour to Tacony Creek Park in the Philadelphia area. The students did not go there to enjoy the park or walk the trails; instead they went to participate in an annual clean-up event, collecting more than 100 pounds of trash.
Along with their professors and instructors, 35 Penn State Lehigh Valley students got to see new parts of the world and expand their learning and understanding of course material during a short-term study abroad program over spring break.
In a study of how incoming first-year college students perceive computing and computer majors, and who influences those perceptions, most students had positive feelings about computing and computer-related majors and jobs. However, gender and socioeconomic status seemed to play a role in whether parents shaped those perceptions.
